GOD THIS IS SO FUCKING IMPORTANT
"There were once three brothers who were traveling along a lonely, winding road at twilight…"
a line written by a man who is consistently shocked when people call him a misogynist (via thevaleyaard)
… Except that Queen Elizabeth actually said that to her troops and it’s a reference to that. The actual quote is from the Speech at Tilbury, and it was to boost the soldiers morale so they could try to successfully fight off the invading Spanish Armada. The actual quote is “I know I have the body of a weak, feeble woman; but I have the heart and stomach of a king”. Obviously this is in itself still misogynistic, but that’s what the time period was like and that’s what people thought, even the women back then saw themselves as inferior to men, hence why she said she’s outwardly womanly, but internally manly. Everyone back then saw femininity as a weakness. Seeing as the Queen herself says it, I hardly think Moffat’s being a misogynist, he’s just reflecting the time period and its primitive attitudes accurately in his script which happens to take place there. Seeing as the show is educational, I think accurately portraying the time you’re in is a pretty important thing.
Agreed - I caught onto the reference as soon as she said it and thought it was pretty clever!
The line isn’t the problem; the problem is that Elizabeth’s whole character is rewritten to fit the Gallifrey Stands story, with the suggestion that she only ever became a strong and independent (and somewhat bitter) woman because the Doctor didn’t come back for her, therefore turning her into the historical figure we think we know today. So whatever way you look at it, her characterisation still depends on a guy.
I’ve really gone and done it this time, I’m afraid.
For obvious reasons.
The manipulation and colouring is all mine.
Oh my god, Erin. Why would you do this?!
i’ve actually started crying
I love it.
fun prank; tell women they’re only good for romance, sex, and having children. and then laugh at them for wanting romance, shame them for having sex, and act like they have to give up all facets of their personalities if they become mothers
